As a U.S. coin, the design is in the public domain, and per United States Mint Circulating Coin Design Use Policy, it is being used in an educational way to help identify and illustrate the 1933 Double Eagle article on Wikipedia. Also, per the Policy, since the source of the image is from the United States Mint Website, image credits on Wikipedia must carry the tagline United States coin image from the United States Mint.

1. The illustration is of a size less than three-fourths or more than one and one-half, in linear dimension, of each part of the item illustrated;
2. The illustration is one-sided; and
3. All negatives, plates, positives, digitized storage medium, graphic files, magnetic medium, optical storage devices, and any other thing used in the making of the illustration that contain an image of the illustration or any part thereof are destroyed and/or deleted or erased after their final use.
